CHESS
At the heart of Pravaha’s mission is our deep commitment to nurturing India’s highly able children. In line with this vision we added one more focus area to our repertoire in 2023: Chess. The game of chess was born in India, and we have seen a renaissance in terms of players with great talent and skill emerging from our country in this sport. There is however much more that needs to be done to encourage and support this burgeoning talent.
Given that the sport of chess requires higher-order intellectual and problem-solving skills, it is a logical extension of our mission. We see chess as another means for highly able children and young adults in India to realise their potential within the country and in the global arena.
These young chess players require support through sponsorship, training, and organisation of tournaments to progress to the next level. And especially, female chess players face greater challenges in securing sponsorship in our country. This is the gap that we are trying to bridge through our efforts.
